"Fake" Footers for Websites
Sometimes Footers can be hard in a the Free version of any website builder. This page helps you solve some of your Footer needs.
What is a "Fake" Footer
Some website builders like Weebly don't have a special Footer section, so you have to make one. Other website builders like WordPress.com do have a special Footer section, but on the Free version they will put ads above the Footer, so if you put the Fake footer above the ads, then put your own ads or a large space then people may stop right there.
It is best to set up a section just as your Footer. It may also be best to make this footer White, but not always. It really matters on Weebly's bottom ad. They keep changing it from time to time. WordPress it is best to go White, because your "Fake" Footer is not at the bottom and you don't want people to think that it is just a small section in your site.
If you make the Fake Footer section white then you will want to put a Divider at the top of the section. Something to break it off from the rest of the webpage.
It is good practice to look at other websites that may be similar to yours and what did they put in their Footer. I would also say when designing the Footer section is to keep it simple.
Before You Create the Footer
You will have to plan what is going to be in the Footer. You will have to create the main pages first if they are going to be linked in the Footer. Also have figured out what your Footer will look like, because it is hard to change it later.
Things to put in the Footer
Usually a Footer will consist of 3 columns.
These are only some to the things to put in the Footer section. It would not be advisable to put them all in, It really matters on your needs and the purpose of the website. You want to have a neat and organized Footer.
Navigation Menu
the Navigation Menu is a great thing to have in the Footer section. I usually put it on the right side.
Copyright
The Copyright lets people know how long your website has been up and if it is up to date.
Social Icons
You could do Sharing icons or icons to link to your social media pages
Call to Action
Whatever your Call to Action is for the website the Footer is a great place to get your final Call to Action request
Link to your Contact page
If this is something that you have a focus on your site the footer is a great place to put it.
Email Signup
If you have a Email newsletter that you send out then the footer is the good place.
Address and Link to Map / Directions
Phone, Fax numbers, Email
This part is only for them that have a business. Other than that I wouldn't give that private information out freely. Sometime putting your email address instead of a Contact form will allow internet bots of see it and send you a lot of emails.
Branding, Logo, Icon
Having this in your Footer might help people recognize your Brand more.

One thing that you will want to remember is to have some space at the bottom of each column section. When it will be viewed from a mobile phone your column sections will be stacked on top of eachother and you will want a little space to separate them.
